In Memory of Ibrahim Abdul-Matin

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our board director, Ibrahim Abdul-Matin. Ibrahim was an accomplished and dedicated environmentalist, climate justice activist, and sustainability leader. He authored Green Deen: What Islam Teaches about Protecting the Planet and co-founded the consulting firm Green Squash.

Most recently, Ibrahim was a Senior Fellow with Interfaith America and New Yorkers for Clean Power, and an adjunct lecturer for undergraduates at his alma mater, the Marxe School at Baruch College. He leaves behind a beautiful and loving family, a caring community of friends, and a world that is better for having had him in it.

During his brief but meaningful time on the Scherman Foundation’s board, Ibrahim was an invaluable member of our community. He brought a wealth of ideas, knowledge, and spirit to our work, and his distinct warmth and humor to our conversations.

Earlier this year, Ibrahim expressed his excitement to collaborate with our staff and board to drive impactful change and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. We are very grateful for the time we shared with him and are committed to honoring his legacy through our ongoing work in pursuit of justice and the future Ibrahim envisioned.
