Scherman Foundation 80th Anniversary Publication

Dear Colleagues, Grantees, and Friends:

2021 marked the Scherman Foundation's 80th anniversary. To commemorate and celebrate this milestone, we embarked on a journey to explore the Foundation's historic values and longstanding support for organizations at the forefront of social change.

The product of these efforts is a 90-page publication titled Building Our Path Forward: 80 Years of the Scherman Foundation. This book tells the story of our early beginnings as a small family foundation founded by Book of the Month Club pioneer Harry Scherman and carries us forward through time as the Foundation and its programs are shaped by an illuminating range of strong voices and rising movements.

Accompanying this narrative is a new section of our website, Our Story, which features a timeline of this evolution, as well as infographics and other text that summarize this work.

We are extremely grateful to the Scherman family and all those who helped make this possible, including our board members, grantees, and other colleagues who were interviewed and provided content for the publication, as well as those who contributed their time and unique skillsets to developing the project at every stage.

Moving onward, we seek to deepen the values and commitments established in the text and amplify them through a racial justice lens. We are excited to invite you on this journey with us.
